What is something you know now in business that you wish you knew earlier in your business or career? “Asking for mentorship is a must. I was raised to believe you need to be the best. That meant that asking for help showed a weakness. It took me way too many years to realize that Great Mentors are happy to guide someone. The only way we grow as a person is to learn. The only way is to try something we havne’t done before. The BEST way to try something new is to learn from a mentor.”

What is something you know now in business that you wish you knew earlier in your career or business? “Taking risks is essential. Playing it safe stifles imagination. I would have spoken up more assertively, said no more readily and invested myself in endeavors that didn’t have foreseeable outcomes.”

What is something you know now in business that you wish you knew earlier in your business or career? “I have known the importance of communication with my clients for years now. However, for many years, I didn’t put enough effort in this area. There is nothing you can badly enough that cannot be remedied with communication. Conversely, there is the smallest mistake that becomes enormous with the lack of informing your client.
The amazing thing about having great communication with your clientele is that the appreciation is huge (even with the smallest of efforts). I keep my clients informed of every delay no matter how small. In addition to this, everything you communicate to your client you must stand by. If you make a mistake (in price, timing or availability) you honor what you say. (Therefore, be thoughtful in your communications!).

What’s is something you know now in business that you wish you knew earlier in your career or business? “It is now one of my deeply held beliefs that any effort toward skill-building for career development MUST include work on the inner you. Your level of technical competence is not enough in today’s marketplace. To be an authentic leader, you must be honestly self-aware, open to feedback, not afraid of change, worthy of trust, and always learning.”
