At our recent Leadership Luncheon in Orange County on Tuesday, our members really “leaned in” on the topic of staying relevant and competitive to succeed in business!  Some of the best slices of advice I took away……

Differentiating Yourself: This is a long-term strategy and is always evolving. No matter how you slice it, things keep changing and to be competitive and relevant today means keeping your eye on the ball in how you can continually differentiate yourself. In other words, one and done doesn’t apply here. You’re always evolving and looking for ways to differentiate yourself in the marketplace.

Keeping Your Team on Point: Employees may not truly understand your mission and how they play into the role of being relevant to your company and success. You gotta’ keep the troops informed and trained on the messaging of your company and uniqueness. The big message here: never assume employees know what you want them to do or say…..and owners need to keep the troops informed via staff meetings, expectations and how things change and how their behavior/actions create success or not.

Market Fluctuations: What’s in the news is not always good news. Women who lead need to keep apprised of what is trending in the news, but not necessarily react from the dismal media portrayal of doomsday or market fluctuations. Keep on course, make sure to have a solid team of professionals who advise and guide you in all things business. To stay relevant and competitive means surrounding yourself with the right selection and mix of advisors who will keep you informed and on top of how to build, grow and sustain your enterprise.

If You Want to See the Rainbow – You Have to Go Through the Rain: Admittedly, this was my favorite idea of the day…….thanks to Cookie Walden of Trilogy Financial Services, as no one gets to success without having to deal with a bit of rain in their business. The message here to be relevant and competitive in order to succeed is that everyone will experience things that stretch you, that challenge you and that seem difficult…..but experiencing the rain and going through the rain means the rainbow will be forthcoming!

On a side note…….don’t forget to “dance” in the rain as well…..cuz it makes getting to the rainbow so much more fun!

Why don’t you consider joining us for our next discussion?! I look forward to seeing at one of our upcoming Leadership Luncheons!
