In the past, virtual teams have been tried and failed – like the last breaths of a candle flame sputtering to find fuel to continue to burn. In spite of the “flame” almost being extinguished, the trend for mobile computing has continued to build and gets stronger every day. Why it didn’t work in most companies in the beginning can be traced to three things:

• First, the tools to fulfill the demand were not in existence or not widely adopted (security concerns, screen response times, lack of applications available, etc.)
• Second, the management of the employees or staff needed a new model (metrics for performance and results measurement are a critical part of keeping things on track)
• Third, the employees themselves needed a new perspective of their role (self-starters who have a business owner mindset is required).

Waking up to a new way to do business with the virtual office needs guidelines and tools. In fact there are so many tools choose from that your head will spin. To keep you from getting dizzy I have narrowed down the conversation to using Microsoft SharePoint as a platform. It works with most tools available, such as: Office365, Financial Applications, Project Management Tools, CRM Solutions, and others; And will allow you to add functionality as you grow. My mission is to bring best practices, automation and the sharing of ideas to support those operating a Virtual Office.

Why SharePoint? It is a best in class, cost effective tool that will provide collaboration, document management, forms creation, workflow automation, business intelligence, tracking, security and metrics and as a bonus……. Wait for it……. Drum roll if you please….. YOU save valuable time.
