At our recent CEO/Executive Panel Forum on Thursday in Irvine, our topic centered on “True Confessions: What I Wish I Knew Before I Started in Business, and Other Lessons Learned!” CWI Members and invited guests shared some great ideas in what NOT to do in business to be successful! One of our attendees and former panelists, Sylvia Becker-Hill, captured all the great ideas in a fabulous visual format…thank you Sylvia…..and here’s a recap:
Don’t React: Make sure to give a little thought and time before reacting immediately to email messages or conflict or conversations that need some finesse and smoothing over.
Don’t Focus Just on the Numbers: Big discussion on this as it seems like everyone agreed that there is so much more to business than numbers. If your needle, gauge and key performance indicators are only focused on the numbers, you’ll miss so many fabulous indicators worth paying attention to. Some examples shared were client testimonials, reputation earned, referrals and customer/employee satisfaction and performance.
Don’t Let Criticism Pull You Down: Leave the ‘head trash’ for the trash. End of story. Period.
Don’t Think it’s About You: 99% of the situations and issues in business have nothing to do with you personally, but everything to do with what’s going on with others. Realize it’s not you….it’s not about you…..and it has nothing to do with you. Take the personal out of it!
Don’t Be Discouraged by No’s: While it might bring you down a bit initially….everyone deals with “no.” It just means “no for now.” FOLLOW-UP!
